Colombia Organica

Organica is made up of 104 farm families in southern Colombia striving to keep their cultural identity and autonomy. With these core beliefs they started in 2001, when leaders in the municipalities of Tambo, Timbío, Piendamó and Popayan were anxiously looking for a way to stay on their farms and not sell their labor in construction and other menial work in the city. They decided to convert their production systems to organic production, recognizing that the additional work and the importance of achieving sustainability-- having their production be part of their identity.

Organica ultimately achieved full organic certification by 2004 and today are nationally and internationally recognized for their coffee. They have always vied for the welfare of their members by strengthening trade relations through the principles of transparency, democracy, mutual respect, active participation and long-term relationships practicing these ideals through mechanisms of joint action and cooperation among members and customers.
